Good Stupid Fun

Call me a sucker for mindless games

…But I found this one over on Armor Games, and just had good time with it.  Meet Earn to Die.  It’s as mindless a game as you could want, and a great way to waste half an hour, but if your bag is earning cash by running down zombies, then this one has you written all over it.

It’s composed of mechanics we’ve seen time and again in side-scrolling flash games, but something happens when you mix unlockables with running down zombies.  It’s just good times.

On a side note…

Am I the only one who thinks a AAA title that incorporated this sort of gameplay would be mind-blowingly amazing?

Freebie – Blenderized Apple Wallpaper

I was in the mood for an Apple wallpaper, but just couldn’t find one that I really liked.  So, I made this one!  Rendered with Cycles, but it’s super simple.  Green glass material, UV mapped plane with bump mapping, and 2 lights.  I got a little creative with the blue light – it has a long cylinder around it to help focus the light a little bit (wow, do I love playing with Cycles).

Any feedback is welcome!

skyRimGameJam

This is one of the coolest things I’ve seen in a long time.  It’s also nice to see a studio who values the creativity and ideas of its employees to this degree.  Other mega-publishers and developers should take a page from this practice.  Ideas, after all, are the product of our trade!

Enjoy…

Skyrim wouldn’t be complete without it…

Elder Scrolls V Creation Kit

Bethesda today announced the Creation Kit, the consumer-grade level builder for Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.  For all of us level designers out there, that means hours and hours are soon to be spent crafting new mods.  Thanks Bethesda.  Thanks for the tool, and thanks for promising to eat up all of my spare time for the foreseeable future.  And there are so many things I wanted to accomplish this summer…

Aftermarket Controllers

Aftermarket Controllers These Days…

I can still recall the days of yore where all of your friends did their best to weasel their way out of playing with the off-brand aftermarket controllers.  Those for the original Xbox, and especially before were prone to glitches, chintzy feeling, and just unappealing in general.  After seeing the video below, I hope things are on their way to changing.

3 Movies That Changed My View of Reality

I was inspired this weekend after catching a part of The Matrix on television and reliving some of the wonder I felt the first time I saw it.  The experience got me thinking about other movies I’ve seen over the years, and what effect they had on my development.  I first considered doing a Top-10 list of movies, but I remembered that I hate long-winded discourses on unimportant topics.  So, here’s my Top-3!
